illustration friday (refresh)
What a perfect IF topic for this week, as I have just started a series of etegami about herbs. Herbs refresh us in so many ways, don't you think? Lavender sachets kept in the clothes drawer, fresh basil leaves in a salad, iced mint tea on a hot summer day....
Do you grow your own herbs? How do you use them? I would so welcome your ideas.

Wonderful! I think you've inspired me to make some mint tea :)
ReplyDeleteoops I think my comment disappeared!
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I do when we move... is to buy an aloe plant and... tarragon which is sometimes hard to find and hurry to plant them in pots...
their uses: burns and scars...for the plant and "bearnaise sauce" which is a must in our family traditions when we celebrate one thing or the other for tarragon...
Oh yes, I culd not manage without my aloe plant, because I'm always burning myself in the kitchen. I never thought of it as an herb, but I guess it is! I love to use tarragon in cooking, but I've never grown it myself.
DeleteThymus and Rosemary ! Always found in my backyard in the pots ! I love to have them in the grilled patatos and roasted tomatoes !!!
ReplyDeleteAnd mint tea with honey......delicious refreshment in the summer!!
Thanks for sharing. I like those herbs with vegetables too, especially baked potatoes! I'll try them with roasted tomatoes next time.
Deletelemon balm - for the sheer joy of brushing against it and having the smell of lemons lingering on my fingers. Makes me smile each time. And find my center. I try to have some near the door, so I can brush against it coming in. On a hot day, rubbing the glass rim of almost any beverage w lemon balm adds a whole other dimension - tea, lemonade, or water - they all work. ... And always, always aloe, in a pot, in the kitchen, indispensable for burns, bug bites, sunburn. My primary medecine. Basil to wrap little bites of things round - and chives to chop fine for omelets. It's interesting with herbs that I always thought you should use them sparingly, but I've found that I love using them generously, encrusting salmon especially - and any vegiges that i'm sauteing where they may form crispy edges on slices (or a whole layer on fish) and it's Wonderful - so satisfying. I eat less and enjoy more. I've come to believe that satisfying your taste buds is one of the most important aspects to weight control. I don't know that gets written about much, but it makes a total difference between being satisfied after a meal (even a smallish meal) and roaming the kitchen 30 minutes later looking for "something."...never sure what... some extra taste kick - which all too often ends up being a sugar. So , yes, here's to the amazing power of herbs... of which i know only the tiniest, tiniest bit.
ReplyDeleteWow. Your comment is utterly inspiring. Thanks for sharing. You've given me some wonderful new uses for herbs!
DeleteOh dear, well. I have tried! I do not have a green thumb, so there is not a whole lot of success in that area, alas! (I was robbed. My mom has a totally green thumb!) I have a sister-in-law however, who uses mint in a very, very agreeable way - Mojitos. And I don't drink much, but those I will drink all day. ;)
ReplyDeleteThese are so beautiful, but especially the mint with the great purple flowers!
