illustration friday (fuel)

As soon as I heard what this week's IF topic was, I knew what I wanted to draw. But it took me forever to think of words to accompany the image. I originally planned to write "cow chips, a sustainable fuel," but it sounded soberly PC when I really meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I finally gave up trying to be clever, and prosaically labeled it "cow chips." Booooooring.

  1. I never thought I would say this about wheelbarrow (or cow dung for that matter); it's beautiful! I love the colors and it has a nice autumnly feeling. :)

  2. It has a nice art deco vibe, I love the yellowy background, are you using different cards?,,,,,,,,,,BTW we call them 'cowpats', they make good frisbees. :)

  4. Fact of life, cow chips can fuel the world. You make an unpleasant subject appear beautiful. Nice illo and interpretation.

  6. You have such a wonderful sense of how to position your subject matter within the composition. Do you play with cropping digitally or is this the actual piece?

I loved your comment on my blog about a satisfactory drawing being less than finished, short of being perfect. Such a wonderful concept.

  7. Thank you all for your great comments. :)

@Sarah, yes this is the actual card, and no, I don't crop it digitally unless I have to customize the dimensions for a particular use. I explain the the positioning and the "cropped look" in Vika's interview in my previous post titled Miniature Art if you haven't seen it yet. I also go into more detail about the concept of leaving art less than perfect in the same article.
