illustration friday (contraption #2)

At our wedding, 34+ years ago, a friend gave us a pair of Swiss army knives. My husband lost his fairly recently, while he was hiking in the mountains. But I still have mine. It's one of the few-- maybe only-- wedding gifts that we still possess today. I'm very fond of it, but the only thing I ever use it for is to break down cardboard boxes to put out for recycling. Poor, under-used army knife...

  1. Love my swiss army knife too. And your illustration is very attractive.

  2. I don't know anyone who actually uses ALL the tools in the swiss army knife. Corkscrew? Really?

  3. Probably been a while since you used the button hook! I have a mini one, just fits in my small handbag, I use it for everything.
Love the colours and the composition.

  4. Excellent observation! my "half" needs a constant reminder before leaving for the airport otherwise it's one more to replace... ;-)

  6. Oh, I adore this!! How nice that you still have yours. My son asked for a Swiss Army knife for Christmas when he was about 8, and was more excited about it than almost any Christmas gift ever. He treasured it until, alas, he lost it on a fishing trip at age 23. Didn't want a replacement...some things just can't be replaced!

  7. It's not underused anymore, now that it's become the subject of this lovely painting.

  8. I love this - and an excellent subject for the prompt.
It's funny how Swiss army knives seem to have special significance. They always remind me of wonderful holidays spent in the Swiss mountains.

  9. Excellent! I keep mine in my glove box. You just never know when you're going to need it. Love your painting! Very cool you got it for a wedding gift. I think my favorite wedding gift was a wheel barrow. That's lasted longer than the marriage :)
