illustration friday (equality)

A reminder from one of my heroes, Abraham Lincoln, 16th president of the United States of America. From his Second Inaugural Address which ends with these words:

With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.

  1. Beautiful, beautiful! He had so many beautiful thoughts, and I am sure he still is, with God. Your art is lovely. It must be hard to keep the blue and red paints from bleeding into the white stars! MaryK

    1. Mary, I filled in the stars with white crayon before adding the paint. Even so, I didn't completely succeed in keeping the color out of the stars. You can't tell until you look at it up close.

  2. Debbie, this is a remarkable piece, I love your use of Lincoln and your tying it to equality. I maybe it's not your intention, but it really rings true given the recent Supreme Court ruling on marriage, plus the upcoming Fourth of July.
