IF THIS IS FADING If this is "fading" Oh let me immediately "fade"! If this is "dying" Bury me, in such a shroud of red! If this is "sleep," On such a night How proud to shut the eye! Good Evening, gentle Fellow men! Peacock presumes to die!
Etegami (e= "picture"; tegami= "letter/message") are simple drawings accompanied by a few apt words. They are usually done on postcards so that they can be easily mailed off to one's friends. Though etegami has few hard-and-fast rules, traditional tools and materials include writing brushes, sumi ink, blocks of water-soluble, mineral-based pigments called gansai, and washi postcards that have varying degrees of "bleed." They often depict some ordinary item from everyday life, especially items that bring a particular season to mind.
Poor Emily, but I suppose fading away is not too bad, however Debbie, I think the first one is more like 'going out in a blaze of glory',ReplyDelete
but then your etegami are usually glorious!
Wow! The depth of color in that sunset one is marvelous!ReplyDelete
What beautiful work! They match so well with the poem you have chosen.ReplyDelete
Heh! I do like the fading out in a blaze of glory thought! I totally agree. Lovely pieces!ReplyDelete
On some streets here it sometimes looks like pink snow has fallen in the night.ReplyDelete
These speak to me as I see the dotting you spoke of. They are beautiful, but less detailed than your usual etegami and go so lovely with the poem . Thank you.ReplyDelete
