illustration friday (stir)

By this time you all know about the mega-quake that has devastated Japan. Many of you have asked after my safety. Thank you. I am safe. Heartsick, but safe. The disaster is far from over, and I don't really feel like writing about it. However, I was able to refer to the event in a series of Etegami collages. It even fits this week's IF theme.

In Japanese mythology, a giant namazu (catfish) causes earthquakes when he stirs in the mud beneath the earth. The more violently he thrashes, the more violent the earthquake.

The catfish collages are beautiful! I especially love the black background.

  10. Debbie, Love the etagami. I am so glad you are doing ok. I thought of you after hearing the news. My son is over in Hawaii and I was under a lot of pressure myself. I was so worried I couldn't even sleep!! The person you are talking about his photo, is Morgan Hunt Jr. https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=578350511&ref=ts As always you do wonderful work. 11. Oh, thank goodness you're ok! I was worried sick!

Beautiful drawing, Debbie. A perfect way of speaking about the disaster without the need of words. (not too many, anyway, heh)

I'm sending all good thoughts I can for you and all victims of this nasty fish. It could sit quiet for a while longer, couldn't it? (and for a while I mean ages)

    Please be safe. *hugs*

  17. I love both versions, and appreciate learning something new. I'm glad you're safe, though so sorry about the many people suffering. Even if you don't feel like writing about current events for the blog, maybe writing to yourself will help? I'm glad the catfish gave you an outlet for some of your excess feelings. Wishing you and yours the best.

  20. I'm glad you're all right Debbie. Our art is spawned from all our experiences, good and bad. I like both catfishes, but I like the bottom one the best because he looks angry. It really catches the feelings of the tragedy.
