snow city sapporo
For this week's Illustration Friday challenge (topic: "forward") I'm posting my latest illustrated map to show you how my hometown tries to maintain a forward-looking mindset about the huge amount of snow that we have to deal with for six months of every year. You can see a bigger version of the map, along with my other illustrated maps, here, on the They Draw and Travel website.

This is so much fun to look at! I love the colors and the composition. Showy, snowy fun!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so great! How do you print like that with a brush my friend? Margie
ReplyDelete@Margie, I drew the words in with a gel pen, not an ink brush (which would be nearly impossible on these high-bleed cards).
ReplyDeleteThat's the best map of Sapporo I have ever seen.
ReplyDeleteI never think of Japan as having snow! How ignorant of me. Are you near the steaming springs where the monkeys imitate Finns in Saunas? Personalized maps are a favorite journal form for me.
ReplyDelete@Dana, nope, we are much further north. Hokkaido is the northernmost island/prefecture of Japan, and has a somewhat different ecosystem from the main island. There are no monkeys native to Hokkaido. But snow in winter is common in many parts of Japan.
ReplyDeletewow! very informative - delightful to view!
ReplyDeleteThis is perfect for the TDAT website! Years ago, a friend brought back photos from her trip to Japan, including the Snow Festival. I was completely amazed and enchanted by the huge buildings, etc all made of snow. Incredible...I hope to see it someday!
ReplyDeletePretty!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the beer Museum part to fight the snow your are fighting... lol
ReplyDeleteI love map drawings! This is beautiful! I don't know if I could handle so much snow.. Best to you!!!
