Let's just say I was feeling silly. The cow was shot into space from a circus cannon (can you tell?). What started out as a traditional etegami turned into a collage that couldn't decide between being a purple-cow parody or a cow-jumped-over-the-moon parody.
LOL, just as long as you are not seeing pink elephants! Thanks for visiting my blog and your good wishes, I am back on deck again and I have treated myself to your cat etegami on Etsy for my belated Birthday gift to myself, Yay!
I'm so glad to hear you're back on your feet. I just received word about the transaction and I'm thrilled to bits that you are the new owner of Catnap!! :D
@cowlady, do you like cute? I'm not so good at drawing cute, but I'm finding that cows are hard to turn into serious etegami. Will post a few more tomorrow.
Cute is okay, but as I'd like to hang a few at the Moooo! Bar, I have to be careful that it doesn't start looking like a kindergarten room! Would you find inspiration from some cow haiku? Like a haibun with cow haiku from Issa? See his cowllection at http://ow.ly/2Gm8h I will buy a series of 3--whatever you come up with. Omakaseshimasu!
"I'd rather see than be one" - though this purple cow is having fun :). I haven't heard of etegami before, but it sounds interesting - another form of combined words and picture (to sketchbooks and comics).
Great use of line and wash, and I think leaving the background white makes the composition work even better!
The details of the moon is beautiful! And I rather like silliness, especially if it includes a purple cow! I was already humming "cow-jumped-over-the-moon" the minute I got a look at this etagami :D
Etegami (e= "picture"; tegami= "letter/message") are simple drawings accompanied by a few apt words. They are usually done on postcards so that they can be easily mailed off to one's friends. Though etegami has few hard-and-fast rules, traditional tools and materials include writing brushes, sumi ink, blocks of water-soluble, mineral-based pigments called gansai, and washi postcards that have varying degrees of "bleed." They often depict some ordinary item from everyday life, especially items that bring a particular season to mind.

ReplyDeleteThis is all fun! I like going totally silly sometimes.
ReplyDeleteHer expression suggests that this trip over the moon wasn't totally expected! Fun, and that's a beautiful moon.
ReplyDeleteI love this purple cow. He looks like he's having so much fun flying.
