Apart from the two-month break I took from it this summer, this issue completes the first year of the newsletter's publication. (This is where you cheer and break out the good champagne.)

The September issue discusses how Etegami Recipe Cards "evolved" from their beginnings, more answers to Questions from Readers, a new Koike Quote, an update on the etegami recipe card giveaway, and a simple index of the main articles in all past issues of the newsletter. Along with a thought-provoking quote from Kunio Koike, the founder of the modern etegami movement, this issue has sections about Etegami Get-Well cards, Frequently Asked Questions, and reader responses to the topic "What Attracted You to Etegami?"

I was afraid there for a while that I wouldn't be able to meet this month's deadline, but the February 2013 issue of the Etegami Newsletter is ready to push out of the nest, blemishes and all. It should be on its way to your email-box if you have already signed up for it. Let me know if you were expecting it, but can't find it anywhere in your mailbox, including your junk folder. The February issue covers such topics as "Alternative inks" and "Valentine cards" in addition to the usual selection from the writings of Kunio Koike, the founder of the modern Etegami movement.

This weekend I will be sending out the first issue of a monthly newsletter about anything related to etegami. If you are interested in signing up for it (it's free), and want to know how, go to the original post here.  The newsletter will arrive in your email box as an attached PDF file. The first issue is only two pages long and feedback is very welcome.

a new etegami newsletter

There has been a rising demand for an affordable English language substitute for the JES (Japan Etegami Society) monthly magazine "Gekkan Etegami," which is both outrageously expensive and (obviously) all written in Japanese. So I've decided to put together a monthly English-language newsletter devoted to the subject of etegami. I hope to summarize some of the more relevant articles in the JES magazine, as well as explain the history, trends, and techniques of traditional Etegami. I also want to introduce the works of popular Japanese etegami artists and current etegami contest information. It will be in the form of a PDF file, starting out at two pages per issue. I hope to send it out by email attachment at the beginning of each month, and it will be FREE of charge.
